SharePoint Web Parts are the cornerstone of SharePoint Development. They are the primary components that constitute most SharePoint Portal pages, for example the Web Part that allows you to view your E-mail and Calendar, or the Office Web Parts for viewing Excel Spreadsheets.
Microsoft has created a short Virtual Lab (meaning that everything will run on Microsoft’s Servers, no installation needed) which shows “The Basics” of building web parts. If you have the time, it’s a nice introduction to the subject. At the end of the training you won’t be a pro, but you will have a basic understanding to which you can build upon.
